As the virtualisation march continues, we continue to see more and more ‘mission critical’ type services being ported to this more efficient and flexible infrastructure.
Don’t forget, though, that this continues to put additional strain on both the storage and server platforms – if something breaks it can be catastrophic in terms of the number of services that get taken down or the loss of one or two important applications.
There is a quip at the end of this article suggesting that the big vendors ought to be selling fault tolerant servers. I couldn’t agree more. And I concur that the real reason is commercial.
That in itself should tell you that by deploying fault tolerant stuff, it will not only slot into your environment easily, but you will actually save on the bottom line as well.
